Weekly Photo Challenge: Inspiration

IMG-20150705-WA0005

Today I was telling my son not to eat too much chocolate pudding. “It will give you a tummy upset.” I said. To which he replied, “Why Mama? My tummy doesn’t have feelings!”

I don’t have to look too far for inspiration. Nadir is the smartest, funniest, most creative little 5 year old I know. He inspires me to be smart and creative too. After all I do have to stay one step ahead of him!

A little celebration

followsI think this calls for a little celebration. It’s been a good 2 months and 9 days. 81 posts later this is where I stand: 102 follows, 3364 views and 1002 likes.

Stats apart I’ve had great fun with my first experience in the world of blogging. Being a mother has been my greatest inspiration in writing but I’ve written about a lot of things, some very personal, thanks to the Daily Prompts and the Weekly writing challenges and photo challenges. I actually wrote my first poem as one of my posts and am now thinking of collecting some of my children’s poems into a book. That will be my next project. I had just started promoting my children’s story books when I started blogging. Now I have so many other ideas as well. I have a novel in my head and am just starting to write it down. Again the idea came to me when I was writing a story for one of the challenges.

Most of all I’ve come across some amazing people. Always ready with kind comments and encouraging remarks. I want to thank all of you for being there and making life so much better. You are an inspiration for me. A special thanks to Pat(ricia)Olga and Victoria for their very welcome feedback, Angloswiss for her inspirational writing, Angie and Connie for their inspirational photography, Sheenmeem and KraftedKhaos for motivating me to write poetry, SalamHarsha, plaridelDriesRandomly AbstractImexcitedstemgirlInigo boy and Bams for their frequent visits, iamfunny2 for his clever challenges, Ray Ferrer for being the first one to click that follow button and No Virgin Mary for being the 100th.

Here’s some traditional mithai (sweets) for all of you. Enjoy!

The Beauty in this world

20130728_175459

My most prized possession is a clay vase hand painted by my mother. She made this miniature painting of a woman with a sitar from a book of poems by Omar Khayyam. She painted it even before she got married in 1954. Being an army wife she took it with her in all her postings all over Pakistan. I am her youngest child and was born when she was 40 years old. When I got married and moved into my own home a few years later she gave it to me. Since then it has been displayed proudly in my home in Pakistan and now in Dubai.

This vase reminds me of the immense talents that my mother possessed as a young woman. Now her eyesight and age doesn’t allow her to do such fine work. She is staying with me these days and I tried to convince her to paint again. I remember her painting when I was a child but she stopped when her eyesight deteriorated. I think she also lost motivation when my father passed away.

The capabilities of us humans continue to amaze me. We can make such beautiful creations yet there are others in the world who only know how to destroy.  We all look the same yet are so different.

This vase will always remind me of my mother and the beauty in this world. For me it is priceless.

Look, I’m rhyming!

I need a daily prompt to write,

A photo challenge to click my camera,

I think I just might,

Have to do something extra.

My very own prompt

To raise the bar,

I really doubt

I have to look very far.

My life as a mother,

My son is an inspiration,

So I should look no further,

And make my own creation.

(My first attempt at writing a poem!)
