Weekly Photo Challenge: Abandoned

The Dolmabahce Palace in Istanbul, Turkey, home to 6 sultans of the Ottoman Empire from 1856 to 1924 and the first president of the Turkish Republic in his last days in 1938 has long been abandoned as a residence and is now a museum open to tourists. My husband and I visited this palace back in 2006.

Dolmabahçe has the largest collection of Bohemian and Baccarat crystal chandeliers in the world and used 35 tonnes of gold (equal to nearly 1.5 billion dollars) in its construction of which 14 tonnes were used to gild the ceilings.
